Done!

The transfer from wordpress.com to wordpress.org took a lot more work than one would think. Importing a new theme for the webpage (black and yellow) proved even more complicated — it blew me away how complex it was to install.  If I had to do it again, it would be easy but the first time felt like I was piecing together an algorithm for a Space Shuttle launch.  The WordPress forum actually linked to two videos (8 minutes total!) that attempted to explain it.  In minute six my eyes went cross and I bagged it.  I experimented on my own until I got it done.

It’ll be fun to outfit the site with some bells and whistles — it will also help convey information more effectively.

Update

Ok, moving the blog is going to take a while. I am dealing with Network Solutions and changes take time. Maybe by the end of the weekend the move will be complete.

Anyway, some breaking news. On my trip to Braaaaaazzzzzeeeeeaaaaal last week, I learned that Sequoia opened an office in Sao Paulo in January and that Trident Capital is talking to a VC firm based in the south of Brazil about partnering on a fund. I know Trident well and respect them — the partner who was apparently in Brazil managed Trident’s investment in one of the startups I co-founded — www.vidavee.com (bought by Vignette Nasdaq:VIGN in 2008).
It’s public knowledge that NEA made an investment in Spring Wireless last year and that a couple of years ago DFJ partnered with FIR Capital (based in Belo Horizonte — see previous post).

So there you go, at least four of the big names in US VC are active in Brazil.

Sequoia’s and Trident’s presence was unknown even to the VCs I talked to last week, so perhaps I am now officially a Woodward and Berstein ink-stained wretch and my blog is breaking news in the VC world. :)
I caution that “opened an office” could mean one guy in an apartment in Sao Paulo but, nevertheless, its meaningful — some smart folks in VC are turning their attention to Brazil.
